"But my sister-in-law got it into her head to be (но моя невестка вбила себе в голову быть; to get into — войти; втискивать) — well (ну) — jealous (ревнивой), I suppose (я полагаю). Not that she ever showed anything (не то чтобы она когда-нибудь показывала что-либо). But after Car's death (но после смерти Кара), when there was a question of Miss Grey staying on (когда встал вопрос, останется ли мисс Грей) — well, Charlotte cut up rough (Шарлотта бурно возмутилась; to cut up — разрубать; буянить; rough — грубый). Of course (конечно), it's partly the illness (это, отчасти, болезнь) and the morphine (и морфий) and all that (и все такое) — Nurse Capstick says so (сиделка Кэпстик говорит так) — she says (она говорит что) we mustn't blame Charlotte for getting these ideas into her head (мы не должны обвинять Шарлотт за то, что она вбила себе в голову эти мысли) — "

partly ['p:tl], Charlotte [':lt], blame [blem]

"No?" said Poirot helpfully.

He paused (он прервался).

"Yes?"

"What I want you to understand, M. Poirot (что я хочу, чтобы вы поняли, мсье Пуаро), is that (это то) there isn't anything in it at all (что нет ничего в этом вообще). It's just a sick woman's imaginings (это просто бредни больной женщины; imaginings — грезы, бредни). Look here (посмотрите сюда)" — he fumbled in his pocket (он пошарил в кармане) — "here's a letter (вот письмо) I received from my brother (/которое/ я получил от моего брата) when I was in the Malay States (когда я был в Малайских Штатах). I'd like you to read it (мне бы хотелось, чтобы вы прочитали это) because it shows exactly what terms they were on (потому что оно точно показывает, в каких отношениях они были)."

Poirot took it (Пуаро взял его). Franklin came over beside him (Франклин подошел /и встал/ рядом с ним) and with a pointing finger (и выставив палец) read some of the extracts out loud (прочитал вслух несколько фрагментов).

imaginings ['maen], Malay [m'le], finger ['f]
