“Now my problem is Cora’s dad. He’s gotten in the middle of it and is playing hardball. I’m starting to see why you tied him up in knots when he came after you.”

“He is Pam’s father, so don’t ask me to comment on what I think of Cal,” I said.

“I hear you. I love Cora’s mom, but I’ve about had enough of him. Cora finally told him to back off because she saw I was about ready to call everything off,” he admitted.

It sucked to be him. My best guess was he’d be happy he had the prenup in place in under a year. Devin changed topics on me.

“I hear you’re taking my sister out tonight,” he said.

“Actually, I have two dates tonight. I’m taking Pam out to dinner, and I’ll meet up with Sandy after that,” I said.

“To be single again. I don’t think I’ve ever had two dates in one night. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.”

“It should be fine. Sandy and Pam were in Catalina all day today. Mom told me that they had a great time together. They’ll be family after the wedding, so let’s hope they remain friendly,” I said.

“Are you still going with us tomorrow night?” Devin asked, referring to his bachelor party.

“Yeah, it sounds like fun. One of the guys I work with invited us all to go to a party with him tomorrow night. It’s some sort of introduction of new models for 69 Naturals. He said it should be a good time, and if he’s saying that, I’d believe him. Some of the parties here get a little out of hand,” I said with a smirk.

“Cora put the nix on going to a strip club. My guys were looking for something to do. This might fit the bill,” he said, and then made a face. “Honestly, I was glad when Cora shut down their plans. I’ve never been one to go to a strip club and have a good time.”

When I arrived home, I found Rosy in my kitchen, cooking. I snuck up behind her and gave her a hug, which scared her.

“You keep it up, and you’re not getting anything to eat,” she threatened me.

“No English,” I teased, and she chased me out of her domain.

I found everyone on the roof having cocktails or sodas. Sandy Range saw me and got up to give me a hug and a kiss.

“I hear you and Pam are going to miss eating your dad’s catch,” Sandy said.

Pam’s look told me she didn’t want to miss out. I motioned for her to come with me and we walked downstairs to the patio.

“I just wanted to get a chance to talk to you alone,” I said.

“About the party?” Pam asked.

“Yes. I saw you’d frozen up again.”

“That’s true, but when you told me that I was yours, it really helped. I couldn’t believe they’d be so mean to me. Aly and I had been friends for as long as I can remember. I’m just grateful you were there,” Pam said.

“I think you need to talk to someone about it. Tracy has a great doctor she’s been seeing who’s done wonders. This is serious now. It’s not just you I have to worry about anymore,” I said.

“Tracy and I talked, and I’ve decided that it’s time. She said her doctor would probably tell me I should dump you because I would be the second crazy girlfriend of yours the doc would be seeing. Tracy’s worried the doctor will think you might be the common link.”

“She’s worried about that, huh?”

Pam nodded and tried not to grin.

“So, it’s me that’s causing you two to be crazy?” I asked, just to clarify.

“That’s Tracy’s take on it.”

I gave up because Pam was having too much fun with it. When I got upstairs, I was told my plans with Sandy had been hijacked. The girls had had so much fun together today, I was taking them all out to dance tonight. I guess I wasn’t surprised when the moms all said they were also going. I looked at Dad, and he just shrugged.

Rosy outdid herself. We all had some of each of the different fish. I’m not sure which I liked best, and I wasn’t usually a big fish guy, even though I’d had a lot of it lately. It was all good.

After dinner, we drove to a dance club that Halle suggested. I was glad to see it wasn’t like some of the ones I’d been to last year with the cast from Star Academy. No one’s ass got grabbed, nor did anyone get a drink spilled on them. Sandy claimed me for most of the dances because I was technically on a date with her, but I did dance with everyone else. I don’t think I left the dance floor.

At midnight, we called it, because Halle and I had to work tomorrow. My parents had a great day, so I was happy.

Wednesday December 30

I was a complete slug in the morning and slept in. I came downstairs to find Caryn and Fritz having coffee with my parents.

“What’re the big plans for today?” I asked as I poured myself a cup.

“Disneyland,” Dad said. “The girls want to go.”

I grinned because he was acting put out. I knew he was a kid at heart and would have fun, so I didn’t feel even a bit sorry for him.

“What about you?” Mom asked.

“David has another busy schedule on the set today. Next week he’ll be off to promote his movie. He has to do a few scenes this morning, then baseball practice, driving school, rehearsal dinner, and finally a bachelor party,” Caryn recited.

“What she said!” I said, pointing at Caryn.
