I look up, lacing my fingers together on his chest. “It’s not like we have had a moment alone since we got you out of the hospital. I told them the truth. That we had been together since before they promised me in marriage. That we both tried to honor it until you saved my life again. That I was staying at the Academy, and I was staying with you.”

He put an arm behind his head, looking up at the ceiling. “That explains my visit from Roman.”

“What?” I bolt upright. “You never told me about this!”

“No time, remember?” he said with a sweet smile, stroking my arm. “I told him that my intentions were honorable-”

I can’t hold back my laughter.

“My intentions toward you long-term were honorable,” he corrects. “I said that I would ask for your hand in marriage when we had graduated. There might have been some mention of how productive recent marriages between the Russian and Italian syndicates had been.”

“That’s so smooth!” I said, “I’m very impressed.”

“Then, I told him that I would marry you with or without his approval, but that I hope to earn it.”

“Oh, you love pushing your luck, don’t you?” I said.

Lucca shrugs. “It went well. His hand only drifted toward his gun twice.”

Howling, we rolled around over the crumpled sheets. I never knew how good it could feel, to laugh with the man I love, sweaty and naked.

“Very well, what about Dario? How did that go?” I know I’m frowning and not looking at all receptive. But I’m still so angry at his family.

“We spoke for a while, he said he had some reading to do and that he’d check in with me later,” Lucca said, brows drawn together. “The next day, Giovanni and Dario called me. They apologized. I don’t think those words have ever left their lips before. They looked like they were in pain.”

“Good!” I mumbled spitefully.

“Giovanni said something interesting,” he said, eyeing me. “He said that even without the bank records, my ‘performance’ showed courage and honor, and they were proud to call me their brother again.”

“That’s wonderful!” I said, kissing him.

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about some bank records, would you?” Lucca said, flipping me over and pinning me down.

“Are you angry at me?” I said, searching his face. “You have every right to be, I know that.”

“I was being proud and angry,” he said, punctuating his words with kisses down my neck. “But the one-two punch of the truth and my - as Dario said - performance, was a good humbling moment for them. They don’t get many of those. Giovanni asked if I would come home this summer, and bring you. He wants us to get to know his son and his wife.”

“What did you say?” I ask, circling his dusky nipple with my fingertip.

“That I would let him know,” he says with a dark smile. He grins at my look of disapproval. “They deserve to suffer for a while, and we have the rest of this school year to handle.”

“It can’t be as rough as the first half, so that’s something,” I said hopefully.

“You know you’re begging for bad luck with a statement like that, don’t you?” My dark and terrifying man looms over me.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I whisper, “Bring it on.”

The Toscano Mafia Saga

Beautiful, dangerous men and the women who (sometimes) redeem them.

Deceptive - An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance

I may be Ekaterina Morozov, dutiful Bratva Princess, but I am not the sweet, well-behaved girl that everyone thinks I am.

I'm promised to Don Giovanni Toscano to create an alliance between his famiglia and the Morozov Bratva. I'm expected to step into my role as a Mafia bride and give up my dreams of a normal, happy life.

I'm having second thoughts.

Unfortunately, Giovanni is exactly the man everyone thinks he is: autocratic, lethal, and he never accepts less than what he thinks he's due.

Which in this case, is me.
