He finally let me fly it, and I put it through its paces. I had a bad feeling that once my mom figured out how much fun it was to fly, I would never see it again. Mom had signed up for the classes with Dare so she could get her license to use the drone for commercial pursuits. From what I saw of the video feed, it would give her a decided advantage in winning listings. She could create aerial videos to help sell homes and tour subdivisions.

Tracy stuck her head out the back door to tell us lunch was ready.

During lunch, I sat down with Sarah so we could get caught up with each other since I didn’t see her very often.

“How about here after lunch?” she asked.

I about choked on my drink. When we were at model camp, I had told the models all they had to do was say when and where, and I would spend personal time with them. She decided to let me off the hook.

“It’s good to know you still consider me attractive.”

“Please. You’re just as bad as Adrienne. She’s always fishing for compliments.”

“She says you’re a big slacker since you became a movie star. I’m supposed to talk you into doing a photo shoot with me over Christmas.”

“I’m in LA then. Talk to Caryn and see if I have any free time when we could do it, and I would be glad to do a shoot with you. I bet we could get Range Sports to pony up some money and make it happen,” I suggested.

“I’ll go make the calls,” Sarah said and abandoned me.

What was it with girls? Once they got what they wanted, it was, “so long, David.” I looked across the room and saw Dare had Brook cornered, showing her video of his drone flight. She glanced over at me, and I made a kissy face. I didn’t think it was right for your girlfriend to flip you off.

Tracy and Pam sat on either side of me.

“Pam says you love her best,” Tracy complained.

Pam was milking my comment for all it was worth. I decided to help her out.

“Was there ever any doubt?” I asked Tracy.

“Puh-lease,” Tracy said, exasperated.

I put my hand under my chin and tapped my index finger under my bottom lip, acting as though I were thinking about it.

“Nope,” I concluded. “She’s the one I love the most. I’ve asked her to marry me at least two, if not three times.”

Pam stuck her tongue out at her best friend. Tracy knew this was all in good fun, but that didn’t mean she was going to let Pam off easy.

“She’s also the only one who’s turned you down that many times.”

Pam’s eyes got big.

“Bitch,” she said as Tracy scrambled to get away.

I grabbed Pam around the waist and pulled her into my lap.

“Want to marry me?” I asked.

She melted into my arms and put her head on my chest.

“I do love you,” I whispered. “If you ever change your mind, let me know.”

We both knew I meant it. We also both knew that neither of us was anywhere close to being ready for that kind of commitment. Pam liked being a part-time mom and a full-time teenager. She wanted to go to college without being tied down by Coby—or me, for that matter.

Tracy got everyone’s attention.

“Since David doesn’t want to play sexy games or drink …”

That got me a round of good-natured boos.

“… I thought we could play a game called ‘Most Likely To.’ It’s based on the ‘Most Likely To Succeed’ designation you see in yearbooks. I will ask the first question, and then all of us will hold up a card with a name on it. The person most named will then ask the next question,” she explained as she handed out index cards with everyone’s names printed on them.

“I’ll start,” Tracy said. “Who’s the most likely to take the longest to get ready?”

My brother held up my name. I glared at him while I thought about the question. Cassidy might be a candidate because she usually had to go back and get her makeup redone. I quickly rejected Tracy and Sarah. Then I smiled and held up my card: Jill. Everyone else seemed to agree with me and held up her name.

“Why me?” she complained.

“To look that good, you have to work at it,” Wolf teased.

Jill wasn’t sure if she was offended or not. Luckily, she decided not. She smiled when she came up with a question.

“Most likely to say something they’ll eventually regret …”

This was a good one. My first reaction was Brook, but then I remembered I was dating her. Tracy was the easy target, but inspiration struck: Tami. As I held up her name card, I glanced around, and my friends were all looking at me. None of them had a card up. I glanced over at Tami and … well … crud.

“Why do you think that, David?” Tami asked.

I shuffled through the cards and pulled out my name.

“Happy?” I asked, and she smiled.

“I guess it’s my turn,” I said. “Most likely to be a spymaster …”

This time everyone held up Tami’s name.

“Most likely to laugh at a serious situation …”

I rolled my eyes because they picked me. I did have a habit of laughing when I got nervous.

“Most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse …”

Cassidy smiled when everyone picked her.

“Most likely to be the first one to die in a zombie apocalypse …”

I picked Don. Everyone else picked Sarah.

“This I have to hear. Why would you expect I would die first?” Don asked.
