“I don’t know that I can and still be me,” I said as I stood up, pulled the key fob from my pocket, and handed it to her. “Room seven. I’m gonna bounce. Later.”
It was hard to keep the sadness from my face and posture as I walked back to the entrance. I just didn’t think that Halle and I were in the cards, so why even go there?

Chapter 25 – I Wish I’d Said … Sunday February 26
I knocked on the door, and Lexi opened it with a coy little smile.
“You didn’t stay at the party very long. I can’t imagine you couldn’t find someone to hook up with at a Geiger event.”
“It started to get weird. I decided I’d better leave before I completely turned into everything I hate about Hollywood,” I said.
She stepped back to let me into her condo.
“Want something to drink?” she asked.
“A glass of water would be welcome,” I said, following her into the kitchen.
“I wish I’d said something more to Halle. I think she’s about to make a mistake with Ben,” I said, letting a bit of disappointment show.
Lexi let out a little snort.
“That train wreck has been in the making for months. I know that you and Brook both talked to her. I thought she realized that he didn’t have honest intentions towards her,” Lexi said.
Standing in her kitchen, I really looked at Lexi. She’d made an effort to look stunning tonight, and I’d not noticed till now. She’d been so busy being ‘PA Lexi’ that it caused me to not look beyond that. I didn’t want to play ‘I wish I’d said’ or did with her like I’d done with Halle. Like Halle, she deserved so much more.
I took a deep breath and tamped that feeling down. Lexi had made it clear that we were only meant to hook up. She didn’t want anything more.
It made me a little sad, but I could work with that. I couldn’t think of anyone but Brook I would rather be spending time with tonight. But Brook might be the one that got away. I had to move on, and what better way than to be with Lexi?
Lexi grabbed my hand and led me to her bedroom. Yep, best PA ever. She’d read my mind.
When we entered her room, I almost burst out laughing. Lexi was a little girl at heart. She had done up her bedroom in pink, and I could see her being a princess in the big canopy bed that dominated the room.
She distracted me as she pulled me into her arms. Having Lexi’s body pressed against mine got my mind back on track. This just felt right; comfortable, even. Amelia Coe had been a mistake even before she announced to the world that we’d hooked up. This was the opposite of a mistake.
Lexi snaked her arms around my waist, and I smelled the floral shampoo she’d used as she laid her head on my chest. We had no need to rush this. We had plenty of time for me to make her scream my name, and she would. I managed to pull away from her a bit, just enough to talk.
“You know,” I said, “you and Scarlet were bad girls, teasing me with your new toy. My secret plan tonight was to seduce you into showing me how it felt.”
She teased the hem of my shirt with her fingers and bit her lower lip. She was so cute when she acted shy. The thing was, I knew Lexi was anything but. She was doing this little act to turn me on.
“Lucky for you, I don’t need to be seduced. I want to show you as much as you want me to,” Lexi said.
“Can I get a guarantee on that?”
“I can do better than that,” she said.
I recognized that expression, and it made Mr. Happy stiffen in anticipation. With her eyes filled with mischief and locked with mine, Lexi took a couple of steps back and unzipped the back of her dress. I groaned as she began her little reveal. I wanted to see her nipple piercings. Lexi was about to bring out the caveman in me as she slowly slid one shoulder out, followed by the other.
I almost forget how to breathe because the dress slipped off her body completely. Lexi wore a sexy matching bra and panty set. She reached back and unclipped her bra, shrugged her shoulders and let it fall into her hand, revealing her hidden treasures.
Lexi had gone with silver nipple rings. It was frickin’ sexy as hell. She looked so perfect standing there that I should’ve probably kept still and enjoyed the sight of her, but I couldn’t. I had to touch her.
I reached up to heft her perfect breasts in my hands, thumbing her nipple rings gently. Lexi looked down at my hands as if mesmerized and then smiled a hopeful little smile up at me.
I took a step, and she was in my arms. Two more, and the backs of her knees rested against her princess bed. I nudged her again, and she sat on the bed. Lexi looked perfect with those not-so-innocent eyes looking up at me.
I took my shirt off; she wasn’t the only one who could look sexy. Lexi spread her legs apart so I could get closer. In that position, it allowed her to reach me quickly. I sucked in a breath when she trailed her fingernails across my chest.
“I have a little secret,” Lexi confessed.
“Really, what’s that?” I asked.
